CULTURE

What They Don’t Tell You Before Moving To Australia

Don’t listen to those who say culture can’t be created in just 200 years…

Having moved back down to the Southern Hemisphere after 13 years of living in the UK, USA, and most recently Sweden, I’ve returned with a fresh pair of eyes — ones that distinguish between what I once perceived as normal and what I haven’t seen replicated elsewhere. There are just some things that become more visible with distance.

Unless you’ve been trying to avoid hearing about our euphoric little (huge) paradise down under, you would already know that everyone is beyond friendly, loves a drink, and with 12,000 beaches — if you visited one every day, it would take you 32 years to soak up those ozone hole UV rays on them all!

Everyone walks around barefoot

I’m not entirely sure if all beach communities around the world are this way inclined or if it’s just us Aussies who are quite passionate about “just popping to the bottle-o” or “just picking the kids up from school” without any shoes on.

Alas, it is a thing that we do — despite everyone owning at least 5 pairs of Havaiana thongs!
